At the behest of the Cabe Foundation, SAU Department of Theatre made a historic first by packing up “Madagascar–A Musical Adventure” for a mini-tour to Gurdon, AR, where we had a spectacular, crack-a-lackin’, one-afternoon-only performance for over 1000 students, teachers, parents, and community members.
Within 48 hours, we had loaded the show in, dry-teched, patched boards, stumbled through, slapped on make-up and costumes, performed, and loaded out – with a predominantly student-run show, and no one who had ever toured with a production before. We even had shadows from Gurdon High School, who watched diligently, asked superb questions, and even got in on the make-up application! I was beyond proud of the students and thrilled with the response of the audience.
It was a thrilling adventure and hopefully the beginning of a wonderful friendship between the Cabe Foundation, SAU, and the Theatre Department.
