Design

In 2010, just as I finished up at UCLA, I got hired as the first Technical Director for the Prescott Center for the Arts in its 41-year history. Who knew that to get my first professional gig I would have to leave Los Angeles and go back to where I grew up? The position was developed through a generous partnership with YavapaiSERVE, the VISTA/AmeriCorps program in Prescott, Arizona.

I cobbled together all of the things I remembered from the various stagecraft classes I had taken at Los Angeles City College and UCLA to start. Then with the help of the artists that had kept the PCA running before, I got a crash course in set design/construction, lighting design, sound design, costume design, props, and makeup. This intensive helped me learn how to speak the languages of tech – something that I’m thankful for everyday as a director.
