Twice now, The@trics has explored the works of William Shakespeare during our Summer Intensives. However, instead of just “putting on a show” each year, we have committed ourselves to making Shakespeare really come alive to our students. Through a rigorously fun set of workshops—filled with exploratory physical and vocal training, pop sonnets, interactive scansion sessions, and collective creation work—we have managed to forge true Shakespeare performance lovers out of previously-skeptical teenagers. Having first staged A Midsummer Night’s Dream in five weeks back in 2013, we honed our process to a manic and wonderful three-week experience with The Tempest in 2015!
